Children at Royd have celebrated World Book Day by looking at a range of of authors, illustrators and books. Each year group selected an author and then completed an activity with their teacher. Afterwards they were taught by the other teacher in the year group and whilst focusing on the same book they completed a different activity. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and there were lots of cross curricular learning opportunities.
One child commented “I didn’t realise that I could do art activities and make things because I had read the book.” The Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children were also paired up with a reading buddy from Deepcar St John’s Junior School who read them a story of their choice. A child commented “It was really nice because I made a new friend”.
