Last half term our topic was called ‘Where does the snow go?’ and it sparked lots of conversations with our children, especially when a ‘lost’ polar bear turned up in our classroom. The children’s mission was to get Percy the Polar Bear back to his mother. The children had to think about where in the world Polar Bears might live and how we might get there, what would we need to wear etc. We spoke about explorers from the past such as Ernest Shackleton, a polar explorer, and compared, transport and tools for navigation, with the modern methods we have today such as satnav. We loved going on our own adventure in the snow, spotting signs of Winter and exploring what happens to ice over time. We enjoyed celebrating our learning with hot chocolate and toast, which was yummy!
