The children in Class 7 have been exploring the fascinating world of materials in science this half term. They have been exploring and discovering how everyday objects are made, what they are made from and what they are used for. They have learnt that plastic is a lightweight and waterproof material used to make things like water bottles, toys, and food containers. Metal is strong and a good conductor, making it ideal for cars, kitchen utensils, wires, and buildings. Glass is transparent and smooth, commonly used for windows, mirrors, and light bulbs. Wood is a natural, strong material used for furniture, doors, and even paper. Finally, fabrics like cotton or wool are soft and flexible, and are used in clothes, curtains, and cuddly toys. The children also discussed Charles Macintosh and Levis Strauss, the makers of the waterproof coat and denim jeans. The children thoroughly enjoyed this topic and learning new vocabulary.
