Computing

ICT is a big part of life at Royd Nursery Infant School not only do we use ICT on a daily basis but we are proud to have won many awards for the original animations the children have made during our animation weeks.

Throughout Royd children are taught Computing capabilities in weekly skills based sessions, and are then encouraged to use those skills to develop knowledge and understanding in all curricular subjects. Pupils can be found creating power point presentations in science, creating short animated films in English lessons, using digital recorders in history and using graphing software to enhance understanding of data handling in Maths.

We are very proud of our ICT facilities at Royd Nursery Infant School. We have a computer suite which has 15 networked computers, equipped with a wide range of software and Broadband Internet access, allowing teaching across all subjects. We have interactive whiteboards and projectors in all classrooms and the ICT suite which provide an excellent visual and hands-on learning aid. As well as Animate IT for animation we also have several digital cameras and digital camcorders. Each class also has a small computer area or ipads with wireless internet access which children can use to further support their learning in all subjects.

We also are lucky enough to have a curriculum specialist teaching assistants throughout the school, skilled at animation.  Every term we have an animation week and Year 2 do a big animation project.  We have had great success with these winning many awards from the Steel City Globe Awards, Kids for Kids USA, kids to kids UK.
