Today the children had a fantastic day where all of their learning was based around the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle, to link with our ‘Why do spiders eat flies?’ topic. We shared the story and talked about how the caterpillar is born from an egg and then once it has grown it makes a cocoon. When it is ready, it then becomes a butterfly. We had fun making a giant caterpillar that we paraded around the outdoors. We also made some butterflies by painting one side and then folding the wing over to create a symmetrical pattern. In the afternoon we listened to the ‘Creepy Crawly Calypso’ and learnt about percussion, woodwind, brass and string instruments. It was lots of fun exploring the different musical instruments to see which sounds they make. The Reception children had a fun and exciting day!
